Frequently Asked Questions – House of Doula

Birth & Postpartum Doula Services

1 ) What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. We do not provide medical care — instead, we focus on nurturing, education, advocacy, and comfort so you feel confident and supported every step of the way.

2)  What does a birth doula provide?

Your birth doula offers:

  • Prenatal visits to prepare for labor and birth

  • Help creating and understanding your birth preferences

  • Continuous support during labor (home, hospital, or birth center)

  • Comfort techniques such as positioning, massage, and breathwork

  • Encouragement and reassurance for both you and your partner

  • Immediate postpartum support and birth processing

You will never labor alone — we remain by your side.

3) What does a postpartum doula provide?

Postpartum support is about nurturing the whole family with the birthing person as a priority

We provide:

  • Newborn care education and hands-on guidance

  • Feeding support (breast/chest feeding or bottle feeding)

  • Emotional reassurance and nonjudgmental support

  • Light household help (laundry, dishes, meal prep)

  • Rest support, including overnight care options

  • Accessing  and referrals if postpartum mood concerns arise

Our goal is to help you recover, bond, and feel confident in your new role.

4) When should we book?

Birth clients typically reserve their due date during the second trimester to ensure availability.

Postpartum care is often booked during pregnancy, especially if you anticipate needing support in the first 6–12 weeks after birth.

5) Do you replace my doctor or midwife?

No. Your medical provider is responsible for clinical care.

Your doula works alongside your team, providing continuous support, comfort, and guidance throughout your experience.

6) Will my partner still have a role?

Absolutely. We support partners — we do not replace them.

We offer guidance, encouragement, and practical tools so your partner feels confident and involved.
