What Is A Birth Doula
A birth doula is a non medical support system that provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth. Doulas work alongside your medical team to help you feel informed, supported, and confident in your choices.
During pregnancy, a labor doula offers education, resources, and guidance to help you prepare for labor and birth. During labor and birth, doulas provide comfort measures such as breathing support, positioning, hands-on comfort, and reassurance, while also helping birthing people and their families understand their options and advocate for their preferences. After birth, doulas offer emotional support and help families transition into the early hours of parenthood.
At House of Doula Denver, our experienced birth and labor doulas provide evidence-based care rooted in respect, collaboration, and compassion. Our goal is to support birthing people and their families in creating a birth experience that feels informed, empowering, and aligned with their values.

Understanding Midwives and Doulas
Birth doulas do not perform medical or clinical procedures or make medical decisions. Instead, they serve as a dedicated support person, coach, and guide throughout the birth process. Because labor and birth are often a birthing persons and their family’s first shared parenting experience, a birth doula supports both parents—helping them communicate their needs, understand their options, and work together toward an empowering birth.
House of Doula Denver birth doulas provide continuous support from the start of labor (including at home, if desired) through birth and up to two hours postpartum, with assistance in establishing breastfeeding if requested. At least one in-home postpartum visit is included. A trained backup doula is always available at no additional cost if labor is long or the primary doula is unavailable.
All birth doula services are offered as an all-inclusive package, with pricing ranging from $1200–$2,500, depending on experience and training. There are no hourly fees and no charge for consultations or interviews or lengthy births

What Makes Our Care Different

Sibling Doula
Including older siblings in the birth of a new baby can strengthen family bonds, foster connection, and ease the transition into a growing family, often reducing feelings of anxiety or sibling rivalry. When children are thoughtfully prepared and supported, they are more likely to feel secure, valued, and confident during this meaningful experience.
Sibling labor support includes gentle, age-appropriate preparation before the birth so children know what to expect and feel comfortable asking questions. Sibling doulas also provide and arrange in-home care for your older child during labor and birth, ensuring they remain in a familiar environment with consistent, trusted support while you focus on welcoming your new baby.
During labor and birth, a trained sibling doula provides consistent physical and emotional care, offering reassurance, comfort, and a calm presence. The sibling doula explains what is happening in real time using language that makes sense to the child, helping them feel included rather than overwhelmed.
Support is always tailored to each child’s needs, personality, and comfort level, allowing flexibility as emotions and energy change. This dedicated care allows parents to focus on the birth, knowing their older child is supported, safe, and emotionally cared for as the family welcomes a new baby together.
